NAV 2003 foutmelding

Als ik een scan over m'n hele pc wil uitvoeren, krijg ik deze foutmelding:

Norton Antivirus was unable to create inoculation data

Maar daarna start de scan wel gewoon... Is dat inoculation gedoe persé nodig? En wat valt er aan de foutmelding te doen?

Maar ik heb zo een idee dat je een heel oude Norton antivirus hebt. Kan dat kloppen?

Je Norton zou of versie 2003 of versie 2002 moeten zijn.
Als het ouder is dan dat dan is het niet effectief genoeg tegen de nieuwe virussen, ook als je de laatste virus definities hebt.

In dat geval moet je even een upgrade doen naar NAV 2003. Die is hier te krijgen:

Ehm... Ik weet niet of je het weet, maar de titel van deze topic is 'NAV 2003 foutmelding'.

Kortom: Ik heb NAV 2003!

Je hebt volkomen gelijk. Ik had even de titel niet gezien. Over het algemeen is het zo dat als je een full system scan doet met Norton antivirus, dus de gehele computer scand, dan wordt er een nieuwe inoculation data gemaakt.

Dus doe dit: doe lifeupdate en doe daarna een full system scan met Norton antivirus. Dan zou je probleem wel opgelost kunnen zijn.

Als je wil weten wat inoculation is dan moet je dit even lezen:

Norton AntiVirus (NAV) uses inoculation to take a snapshot of your critical system files. Certain virus types will infect a computer by changing a pointer, so that the program will execute the virus code first. In these cases, when the inoculation information is restored, the pointers are restored to their original values. Inoculation is one of the many methods that Norton AntiVirus uses to repair viruses.

If the NAV startup scan detects differences in the boot sector or system files, as compared to the previously saved inoculation, then it will display an inoculation warning message similar to the following:

If you have made any deliberate changes to your Master Boot Record, you should choose Inoculate so that Norton AntiVirus will take an updated snapshot that includes your new changes.

If you choose Repair instead of Inoculate, then NAV will replace the new boot records or system files with information taken from the Inoculation database. Inoculation information is stored in the \Ncdtree folder. If the master partitions are of different sizes, this replacement can result in loss of access to all data on the drive.

Inoculation makes a record of the master boot record (MBR) (cylinder 0, side 0, sector 1) and the DOS boot record (DBR) (cylinder 0, side 1, sector 1). The partition table (contained in the MBR) has values that depend directly on the size of the physical disk and on the logical partitioning on that disk. The DBR contains the boot parameter block (BPB), which contains the logical mapping information for that particular partition. The values in the BPB are absolutely dependent on the size of the partition and the type of file system.

These two sectors contain the information necessary to locate and identify the file system used to access the data on the drive. If either of these are damaged, then the data becomes inaccessible even though there may be no damage to the data or the file system itself.
