AMD offers many processors which are sold as APUs, which means they combine the processor with Radeon graphics on the same chip. These offer excellent value for low-end gaming. Intel also has on-die integrated graphics, but its performance isn’t up to par with AMD’s Radeon video cards in that respect.
AMD vs Intel: Who wins?
During an everyday workload, a top-end AMD chip and a top-end Intel chip won’t produce radically different outcomes. There are clear distinctions in specific scenarios and benchmarks, but the CPU isn’t the keystone of PC performance that it once was
Should you buy an Intel or AMD CPU?
If you’re building a desktop PC, the choice between AMD and Intel is as real as ever. The choice is as complicated as ever, too: visit any well-known online retailer and you’ll be faced with a choice of hundreds CPUs. If you’re driven by budget, AMD has a strong command of the lower price-points, but if you opt for AMD it doesn’t mean you exclude yourself from high-end computing: the new Ryzen processors put up a tough challenge to Intel’s CPUs.
However, it's still early days for Ryzen: the processors have proven themselves to be extremely quick, and at much lower prices than Intel's equivalents. But it isn't a slam dunk. Games aren't yet optimised for Ryzen, and Intel processors are still the best choice if you want the best performance in any application regardless of cost.
