Fujifilm legt uit:

Q. What is the difference between the FINE, NORMAL and BASIC image quality settings?

A. These terms indicate differences in the compression ratio for recorded images. The compression ratios differ depending on the camera model, but FINE indicates the lowest compression ratio.
This is followed by NORMAL and then BASIC, which has the highest compression ratio.
In most cases NORMAL is perfectly adequate, but FINE is recommended when particularly high image quality is needed.
