Hallo

Burn a perfect DVD in just 4 steps.

Step 1. SUB2SSA.
If you have any subtitles you want to add, we need SUB2SSA first. If you don't need any subtitles just skip this step. Run SUB2SSA and click open next to the input field. Select your subtitles file and open it. Then select "select" next to the output field and choose where you want to put the SSA file. Now you can edit the font, the fontsize etc. if you want but you can also leave it this way (nothing wrong with the standard settings). Now convert your standard subtitle to SSA by clicking on the "Convert to .SSA" button in the bottom right corner. Now you're done with the converting and the file is saved to the output directory you gave in in the output field.

Step 2. Virtualdub (+adding subtitles).

Open the Virtualdub program and go to "File > Open video file". Select your .AVI file and open it. Now you'll probably get a warning which says something like "VBR audio stream detected...blablabla". You can just skip there advise. I haven't found any bad quality sound or anything else strange in the movies I burned. Now, if you want subtitles first go to "Video > Filters" and press Add. on the left menu that opens look for Subtitler (if it isn't there press load and load it from the VirtualDub plugin directory) Double click the subtitler plugin and open the SSA file you previously made in here and press OK. Go to "File > Start frame server" and press start. Now give a name for the .vdr file and press "save". Now you're in Frameserver mode. Just leave this small program running and continue to the next step.

Step 3. TMPGEnc. Plus

Open the TMPGEnc program and next to Video Source click on Browse and open the .VDR file you made in step 2. Audio Source will automaticly be filled in with the same name now, that's good. Next to the "output file name" field press browse and select where you want to save the .MPG file to and click "save". If you want to you can choose for a NTSC or PAL DVD by clicking on load in the lowerright corner, check if your DVDplayer supports NTSC, PAL or both. (if it's the last option, then it doesn't matter what you choose). Now, if you're ready press "Start" and the approximately 2 hours of converting .avi to .mpg begin. I advise you not doing anything else that requires a lot of computerresources until the converting is done (for example: no games, just surf the internet). Once converting is done (you hear a small beep) you can close the program and the small "Frameserver mode" from the previous step.

Step 4. TMPGEnc DVD Author.

Now comes the easiest step. Open TMPGEnc DVD Author and select "Create new project". Click "Add file" and add the .MPG file. You can define how you want to call this track by clicking on Settings on the left below "Unitled track1". (This is useful when adding multiple moviefiles to one DVD.) Press "Create menu". Now you can choose to make a menu or not. Since I usually only add one movie to a DVD I open the pull down menu (below start) and choose "No Menu", but ofcourse you may choose what you want to do yourself. Now press "Output" and if you want you can define a place where you want your DVD to be saved to temporary or just leave it as it is. Click "Begin Output". Now the .MPG file is being converted to DVDformat. (VIDEO_TS.BUP,VTS_01_0.BUP,VTS_01_0.IFO etc.). This takes about 2 minutes for one movie. Once done you get the option to open a build-in DVD writing tool or just finish the converting. Ofcourse the easiest here is to choose "Open DVD Writing Tool". In this build-in tool give your DVD a label name, set the speed and correct recorder and press Write DVD. Now your DVD is being burned and in a few minutes you're ready to watch your movie on a standalone DVD player.
