Suggestion 1: Use the System File Checker (SFC) to scan system files

The System File Checker tool enable an administrator to scan all protected files to verify their versions. To do so, follow these steps:
1. Click "Start", type "CMD" (without quotation marks) in the "Start Search" box. Right click on the "CMD.exe" file, choose "Run as Administrator"
2. Copy and paste "SFC /Scannow" (without quotation marks) in the "Open" box, and click "OK".
Note: There is a SPACE between "SFC" and "/Scannow", this command will take several minutes to complete and may require access to the Windows installation source files. If you are prompted to insert the CD, click "Continue" each time it prompts.
If it does not work, as this behavior is most likely caused by the corrupted system files, I suggest we perform the following steps to repair the corrupted files:
NOTE: In-Place upgrade will not remove any installed programs or files on the computer. It just repairs the system. However, it will remove all of the installed updates, we need to run Windows Update to reinstall them after repairing. In addition, I suggest we back up useful files to avoid data lose.
In-Place upgrade (Repair install)

1. Start the computer by using the current Operating System.
2. Insert the Windows Vista DVD in the computer's DVD drive.
3. Use one of the following procedures, as appropriate:
If Windows automatically detects the DVD, the Install now screen appears. Click Install now.
If Windows does not automatically detect the DVD, follow these steps:
a. Click the Start Button, type Drive:\setup.exe in the start search box and then click OK.
Note: Drive is the drive letter of the computer's DVD drive.
b. Click Install now.
4. When you reach the "Which type of installation do you want?" screen, click Upgrade to upgrade the current operating system to Windows Vista. Please make sure the edition of Windows Vista is selected correctly.
If any error occurs when upgrading, please stop installing and let me know the error message. After that, let’s install Service Pack 1 in Clean Boot to check the result:

Please disable all startup items and third party services when booting to avoid conflict when installing Vista SP1:
1. Click "Start", type: MSCONFIG in the search box and press Enter.
Note: Please click "Continue" if the "User Account Control" window pops up.
2. Click "Services", check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray).
3. Click "Startup", click "Disable All" and click "OK".
Note: Temporarily disabling the Startup Group only prevents the startup programs from loading at startup. This shouldn't affect the system or other programs. We can manually run these programs later.
4. Please double click the downloaded Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Standalone Installer and follow the instructions to install Windows Vista SP1.
To restore the computer to use a Normal Startup, repeat step 1 above. Then click "Normal Startup" on the General tab, click "OK", and then restart the computer.
