Ehm, Directx maar weer? DirectX

The sound with in the game is choppy/skipping or full of static.

Answer
Make sure your sound card is configured properly:
1. Go to the control panel and double click on the Multimedia icon.
2. Click on the Audio tab. Change the Playback Preferred Device to <Your Sound Card>.
3. Click on the MIDI tab. Change the highlighted item to either FM Synth, MIDI Synth, or Music Synth (whichever is available).
4. Click on Apply, the OK or Close.

Also, We recommend that you shut down all non-critical background applications in Windows when playing DirectX games.

Win 9x/ME
To do this, hold the Ctrl and Alt keys down at the same time and hit the Del key once. This will in turn bring up a window called "close programs". The only two applications that you want listed here before installing or running the game are "explorer" and "systray". Close all other programs by double-clicking on them. You will need to repeat this process after closing each application. Note that some applications may take multiple times before closing. Don't worry that you are permanently changing your system configuration; these applications will return when you restart your system.

Win XP
Hold down the Ctrl, Atl, and Delete keys at the same time
This will bring up the "Task Manager", follow the steps bellow in order:

1) Click the "Processes"
2) Click on the User Name button to sort by user name
3) Click on anything besides EXPLORER and TASKMGR for this User Name or other user names. Do NOT select anything for SYSTEM, LOCAL SERVICE, or NETWORK SERVICE.
4) Click on END PROCESS
5) Repeat steps 3 and 4 until only explorer.exe and taskmgr.exe are open for this user profile.

If the issue still persists:

You probably need to update the drivers for your sound card. This should be available from the card manufacturer's web site.

You will need to lower a Hardware Sound Acceleration setting on your computer to "basic". To do this, follow these steps:
1. Enter the DirectX Diagnostic Tool (go to Start, then click on run, and type in dxdiag, hit the OK button)
2. Select the sound tab at the top of the tool.
3. Set the Hardware Sound Acceleration Slider to 'Basic'.
