Since two days i'm using a wireless access point / router (2804) with my laptop. In my laptop i have a PCMCIA card (2835) as described above. Sometimes my connection loses, the icon of the WLAN utility shows red. It happens after a hour or two hours i used the connect normal. Normaly i have a link quality of 60%. The only thing that helps is reset the access
point, after a few seconds my connection is oke.
Im using the latest firmware on the acces point (1.10) and the laters driver(1.0.17.65) of the adapter, the lan utility is version 1.0.1.5. The OS i use is Windows XP Home edition with all the latest SP's and other patches.
My laptop is a Sony PCG-FX501.

please, take a look to this alert from microsoft:
--------------------------------------------
ALERT - Windows-XP KNOWN WIRELESS ISSUES

The Microsoft Windows-XP operating system has known issues with 802.11 wireless adapters. Microsoft has attempted to correct these issues in Windows Service Pack updates. In most cases, the installation of
these Service Packs will resolve issues regarding wireless adapters. However, it has been determined by Microsoft that the Windows-XP Service Pack 1 and 1a each adds a Hotfix that will cause most 802.11 wireless adapters to malfunction in Windows-XP. Here are the
recommended steps to avoid problems with your wireless device:
Please visit www.microsoft.com and download and
install all recommended Service Packs (Service Pack 1,- 1a) for your specific operating system.
After installing the Service Packs, please check under the
Windows Control Panel,
-Add/Remove Programs, and check to see if this item is in the list:
Windows-XP Hotfix Q815485
If it is, please select it, then choose to uninstall it from the system;
- then re-boot.
(Here are detailed instructions for the removal of the
Windows-XP Hotfix:)
Click Start, Control Panel, then Double-Click on Add/Remove
Programs.
Click on Windows Hotfix (SP1a) Q815485, and then click Remove.
Ignore any removal warning messages and choose to remove it.
Restart your computer.

Visit the SMC Networks website (www.smc.com) and download the latest driver for the adapter (Be sure to choose the "Self-extracting" file, if applicable; this file separates the driver files from the utility files). If possible, install the adapter using ONLY THE DRIVER FILES (no utility). The utility is not necessary for the adapter to function.

Please perform a fresh install of the adapter using the new driver version available online. It is recommended that, if you have had problems with the installation and set-up, you use only the DRIVER files for installation, and that you do not install the wireless utility. If,
however, you chose to install the SMC wireless utility, then you must do one of these 2 things: go into the Administrator Tools section of Windows-XP and Disable the Wireless Zero Configuration utility service;
OR remove the SMC wireless utility from the Start-Up Menu in Windows-XP. You can use the Windows-XP built-in Wireless Zero
Configuration utility if needed. The SMC wireless utility and the built-in Windows-WZC utility are NOT COMPATIBLE. They cannot be
installed and enabled on the same computer simultaneously.

Configure your SMC wireless adapter. Refer to the User Guide for assistance

Verify that all wireless settings (ie: SSID, Channel, etc....) are
identical in both the wireless adapter and the wireless base station
(Access Point or Router).

If you have multiple wireless base stations / Roaming:
Make sure that all wireless base stations are configured to broadcast
the SSID. Most will do this by default.

Confirm that the protocol that is being used is a protocol that is supported by the wireless adapter, and that all other network configurations are appropriate.

Make sure that WEP is disabled in BOTH the adapter and the base station.

Medium to large networks Verify that there is only one active DHCP server device on the network.
If you have a wireless router that is issuing IP addresses via DHCP,then the wireless router should be the only device issuing DHCP addresses on your network.

For optimal results, the computer should always be re-started after any wireless configuration changes are made.
