Thanks, Hannes.

Error Loading Network Device Driver
VERSION 980414
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Question:
After I installed the Connectivity Package, whenever I turn on or restart my computer I see error messages about "network device drivers." One of the error messages is:
Error 7323: Error loading network device driver ndishlp.sys.

What's going on?

Short Answer:
The most likely explanation is that an Ethernet adapter driver call "Existing NDIS2 Driver" has been installed on your computer, even though your computer doesn't contain any Ethernet hardware. If so, we recommend that you remove this driver.
Removing the "Existing NDIS2 Driver"

Double-click on the "My Computer" icon on your desktop.

Double-click on the "Control Panels" icon.

Double-click on the "Network" control panel.

Click on the "Configuration" tab. Look for an "Existing NDIS2 Driver." (You may need to scroll down to see it.) If you don't find it, your problem has another cause. Please call the NSIT Techline for further assistance. If you do find the "Existing NDIS2 Driver," click on it to highlight it. Then continue with step 5.

Click on the "Remove" button.

Click on the "OK" button at the bottom of the Network control panel. A "System Settings Change" box may appear, containing the text: "You must restart your computer before the new settings will take effect. Do you want to restart your computer now?" Click on the "Yes" button. If you do not see this message, restart your computer.

Long Answer:
The "Existing NDIS2 Driver" may have been installed on your computer when you received it. But it's most likely that you installed it yourself while you were following the instructions on "Installing the TCP/IP Protocols" on page 3 of the "Installation Guide." As it happens, the "Installation Guide" incorrectly tells you to install the "TCP/IP Protocol" before you have installed "Dial-Up Networking." This will be corrected in future versions of the "Installation Guide."
Please see the NSIT Techline FAQ entitled "TCP/IP and Dial-Up Networking Install Order" for more information.
