Description:
The focus was placed on the TV modes for Philips TV chips this time. Since version 6.8, where support for the SAA7104 was introduced, many users got smaller disturbances in the picture like white spots or flickering lines. So for version 6.8.4 all modes for the Philips chips SAA7102, 7104 and 7108 were re-calculated completely and more modes were added.
Also the suppoort for multiple soundcards is included now, the TV chips CX25872, 73, 74 and 75 are supported and TVTool recognizes the latest GeForce 4 Ti cards with AGP 8x. Of course some bugs were fixed, too, like the bug which caused wrong vertical frequencies on the monitor after switching back to monitor mode on several cards and the latest Detonator drivers.
Multi-Soundcard Support
There are different reasons to work with two soundcards in one PC. On most motherboards there is a soundcard onboard already today. This is sufficient for the PC speakers. But maybe you want to use a card with higher quality or even digital output for the playback on the hifi amplifier.
Another pleasent side effect of having two soundcards is that you don´t have to turn off your PC speakers every time when watching a movie on the TV. If you have got known this comfort you will realize how annoying it was before.
With version 6.8.4 it is possible now to configure a different card for each the TV and monitor mode. Please note: It is important to start the program you want to use in TV mode (PowerDVD for example) AFTER turning on TV mode. Only in this case the sound output will be routed to the card configured for TV mode. It is not possible to change sound output during runtime of a program.
GF4 Ti 8200 AGP 8x and TV-Chips CX25872-5
TVTool recognizes the latest GeForce4 Ti cards with AGP 8x support now correclty. These cards are used in the current ALDI-PC for example. I think these PCs are not sold in Germany only but in a big part of Europe. So I mention it here in the English part of the site, too. I have found out that the two VGA outputs of this card are numbered incorrectly. The output with number 2 is the primary output and should be used in order to get best performance generally and best compatibility with TVTool. Please check this if you have such a card.
The TV chips CX25872, 73, 74 and 75 are recognized by TVTool now. As these are found on very few cards so far there was no test device. But first feedback from users has shown that it works properly with TVTool. The TV modes for these chips are the same as for the well known CX25871.
That´s it . Have fun with TVTool!
