bedraad maar geen internetverbinding met W7

Ik gebruik Linux Mint met als dual boot Windows. Mijn provider is KPN (Internetplusbellen). Omdat na de upgrade van XP naar W8 mijn dual boot niet meer lukt (dat heb ik maar opgegeven) heb ik W7 in virtual box geinstalleerd. Ik werk via devolo's dus bedraad en met Linux heb je dan meteen verbinding. In W7 niet. Dan krijg ik de meldingen Thuisgroep: verbonden, Verbindingen: LAN-verbinding, Toegangstype: geen internettoegang. Bij instellen moet je dan je gebruikersnaam van KPN en je internetwachtwoord van KPN invullen, maar daarop volgt een foutmelding. Ook de installatie-disc van KPN Experiabox geprobeerd, maar die geeft aan dat ik geen rechten heb o.i.d. en ik kom dan niet in het installatieprogramma.

a. In een VM (virtuele machine, dus in jouw geval de W7 VM) heb je niets te maken met het instellen van netwerk. Dat gebeurt binnen virtualbox (dus buiten de VM), en je krijgt binnen de VM (via virtualbox) een virtuele bedrade netwerkverbinding beschikbaar.
b. Als je ervoor zorgt dat (binnen VirtualBox dus) de netwerkinstelling van de W7 VM is dat het Bridged networking is (zie de handleiding, sectie "Introduction to networking modes"), dan is je Linux Mint met diens bedrade verbinding transparant voor de VM, en lijkt (en werkt) het net alsof de W7 computer rechtstreeks is verbonden met de Devolo netwerk.
[Overigens zou de netwerkinstelling "Network Address Translation (NAT)" ook moeten werken, als alternatief. Dan krijgt de W7 VM een ander ip-adres dan de Mint computer krijgt van/via het Devolo netwerk. De Linux Mint speelt dan (via virtualbox) voor de W7 VM een (NAT-)router na.]

Dank voor het advies. Met die Bridget-instelling werkt het inderdaad. De instelling stond overigens op NAT maar blijkbaar werkte dat niet. Heb het daarom ook nog even met met mijn oude XP geprobeerd op virtual box en ook die stond ook standaard op NAT zonder resultaat. Wat ik in virtual box wel lastig vind, is dat het scherm zo klein is. Bij het opstartscherm is het beeld wat groter, maar als W7 draait is het scherm maximaal pakweg 22 x 17 cm. Groter krijg ik het scherm niet. Helemaal lastig is dat als je dan een programma opent, dat in de meeste gevallen groter opent en dus buiten beeld valt. Je ziet dan maar een deel en dan moet je met balken gaan schuiven om een tekst te kunnen lezen. Is dat virtuele scherm niet groter te krijgen?

Resizing the machine's window

You can resize the virtual machine's window when it is running. In that case, one of three things will happen:

If you have "scale mode" enabled, then the virtual machine's screen will be scaled to the size of the window. This can be useful if you have many machines running and want to have a look at one of them while it is running in the background. Alternatively, it might be useful to enlarge a window if the VM's output screen is very small, for example because you are running an old operating system in it.

To enable scale mode, press the host key + C, or select "Scale mode" from the "Machine" menu in the VM window. To leave scale mode, press the host key + C again.

The aspect ratio of the guest screen is preserved when resizing the window. To ignore the aspect ratio, press Shift during the resize operation.

If you have the Guest Additions installed and they support automatic resizing, the Guest Additions will automatically adjust the screen resolution of the guest operating system. For example, if you are running a Windows guest with a resolution of 1024x768 pixels and you then resize the VM window to make it 100 pixels wider, the Guest Additions will change the Windows display resolution to 1124x768.

Otherwise, if the window is bigger than the VM's screen, the screen will be centered. If it is smaller, then scroll bars will be added to the machine window.

Oftewel: Installeer de Guest additions in je W7 VM, en je zou zelf (vanuit virtualbox, door het scherm te resizen óf door in de VM zelf een hogere resolutie te kiezen) het scherm groter moeten kunnen maken.
