hallo,

ik wist niet waar ik dit probleem moest zetten, want hij past in PHP, SQL en AJAX... Maar ik heb maar voor PHP gekozen. Sorry als dit verkeerd is....
Ik heb de volgende code...
PHP:
$existing_users=array('username1','username2','username3')
Deze code wordt gebruikt om te kijken of een gebruiker al bestaat... Maar nu kijkt ie alleen maar of username1,username2,username3 bestaan.....
Maar ik wil dus dat ie in mijn database kijkt.. Maar ik krijg de code er niet goed in... Weet iemand hoe ik deze codes met elkaar laat samengaan?

Controleren of een naam van een gebruiker bestaat in de database dus.

Dat lijkt me een heel slecht idee. Wat dacht je hiervan?

Dat is een heel stuk beter voor je performance.
 
Dat kan ook :P.

Hangt er vanaf waarvoor je de code gebruikt. Als het een database van 10 mensen is waarbij je de code eens in de 10 jaar gebruikt, denk ik niet dat 't zo'n groot verschil maakt.

Je PHP code ziet er op zich goed uit. Je kunt em even debuggen door de waarde $_POST['username'], en eventueel de opgebouwde query ook zodat je kunt zien of er niet iets vreemds in zit ergens.

Ik ga er vanuit dat je error_reporting aan hebt staan en dat er geen notices oid gegooid worden?
 
uhmmm... ik denk het... weet je nog een paar post terug van mij? SQL is nog een beetje abrakadabra... Maar de code zag er op zich goed uit... wat kan nog veranderd worden? want de uitkomst is iedere keer

Error reporting en query echo'en is allemaal PHP.

Doe eens dit bovenaan je script:

PHP:
error_reporting( E_ALL );

En zet dit eens onder je query:

PHP:
echo "Select * from users where user_name = '$username'";

En vervang je query regel door dit:
PHP:
$existingUsers = mysql_query("Select * from users where user_name = '$username'") or die ( mysql_error() );

Als het goed is krijg je dan je query op je beeldscherm samen met eventuele notices. Dan kun je zien of er niet ergens anders een fout zit.
 
Voor het oorspronkelijke probleem, als je in de database gewoon als index de gebruikersnaam neemt, kan je simpelweg geen 2 gelijken toevoegen en is je probleem dus opgelost., Bovendien lijkt mij er geen andere index mogelijk, waarbij het nog steeds handig is zeg maar.

En waarom heb je ook alweer een js van 3300 regels :O

Verbeter mij als ik het fout heb.:thumb:

Een gewone index is volgensmij niet genoeg, je hebt een UNIQUE nodig als je wil dat er geen gelijken mogen zijn.
 
@ jorryt, ik weet dat dat kan en dat heb ik ook. Maar het is dus een ajax script die al bij het registreren laat zien of het bestaat... en dus niet op de vopgende pagina. Dat is dus makkelijker... daarom...

Maar wat moet nu dus doen. WAnt ik weet het nu dus nog niet.:D

Ooh oke. Ik heb persoonlijk geen verstand van AJAX, maar als het hetzelfde werkt als php, dan zou je het volgende kunnen proberen.

Je zou de volgende sql querry kunnen gebruiken.

select gebruikersnaam
from iets
where gebruikersnaam = "gebruikersnaam";

en dan $resultaat = mysql fetch array
en dan if (empty($resultaat["0"]))

misschien werkt het niet, omdat als die niet bestaat niet querry niet kan worden uitgevoerd...

Ik heb altijd geleerd dat index, standaart uniek is.
Bovendien zou het ook niet logisch zijn als het niet zo is. Het idee van een index, is dat voor deze waarden er andere waarden in een tabel staan. Dus dat als je where index = "iets" er 1 waarde uit zou moeten komen.
En dan ook nog eens, als je het probeert, een dubbele index toevoegen, in bijvoorbeeld phpmyadmin, zal dit fout gaan...

Maar je hebt wel gelijk. Dat zou het moeten betekenen...
 
Ik heb nix geleerd, maar ik ben wel benieuwd waarom een index met auto increment
geen uniek nummer zal zijn en dat je UNIQUE zou moeten toepassen.

Ik ben altijd nieuwsgierig om meer te leren
