When playing C&C Red Alert2, why do all of my units blow up when I start an Internet Game?
Question
When playing Command & Conquer Red Alert 2, why do all of my units blow up when I start an Internet Game?
Answer
Usually you can correct the problem by uninstalling the game, deleting the directory it was installed to (c:\westwood\ra2 usually), and reinstalling from the original game disc.
You can uninstall the game from the Autorun menu, or click on "Start" - "Programs" - "Westwood" - "Red Alert 2" - "Uninstall Red Alert 2".
Before making any changes to the Registry you will want to "back it up". This will enable you to return to your original settings in the case that an unnecessary change is made. To "back up" the System Registry select Registry in the upper left corner of the RegEdit program, select Export Registry, and a small prompt will appear asking for a file name and destination. You can save the file under any name you like, I suggest Westwood. Save the file to your desktop, this will make it much easier to locate if needed.
Once the file is saved, you have successfully "backed up" your System Registry. In the event that you want to revert back to the original settings, go through the same steps, except instead of selecting Export Registry, select Import Registry and the file located on your desktop.
Then, go to: Start, Run, and type "regedit". When your Registry Editor program appears, hit the F3 key on your keyboard. Type "red alert 2" in the space provided and hit "Find". When it finds a key with Red Alert 2, hit the delete key to delete it. Hit the F3 key again and do the same thing for every instance of "red alert 2" until it says that it has finished searching through the registry. If needed, it may also help to completely delete the Westwood folder from the C: drive, you can use Windows Explorer to do this. Finally, restart your machine and reinstall the game. Make sure 'Shared Internet Componants' is checked [X].
Download the latest update by using the autoupdate feature when you first insert the CD, or by selecting autoupdate from the Red Alert 2 folder on your start menu. This will allow you to auto-update and will make sure that you receive the updates in the proper order.
There are two possible reasons for this problem:
1) This is a compatibility problem with unauthorized trainers, cheats, editors etc.
2) This is probably happening because you changed your O/S. When you install RA2, it creates a set of variables based on your system configuration (O/S being one of them). If any of these things are changed it will not let you play without your units blowing up.
If after reinstalling the problem is *still* occurring, we will have to replace your copy of the game. Please contact our warranty department for more information... you will need to submit your copy of the game for them to issue a new game CD.
