Unallocated space op HD's

Hallo allemaal

Ik ben vanochtend mijn nieuw PC'tje gaan afhalen, hierin heb ik twee HD's, beide Serial ATA, laten zetten:

> Western Digital Raptor 36,7 GB (10000 rpm) (disk 2)
> Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 200 GB (7200 rpm) (disk 1)

De Windows XP professional installer heeft Windows XP perfect geïnstalleerd op de Raptor, nu blijkt bij het bekijken van deze schijf met Partition Magic 7 dat er 7,8 MB unallocated space is. Bij het aanmaken van een partitie op de Maxtor blijkt dat ik ook steeds 7,8 MB unallocated space blijf zitten. Weet iemand hoe dit komt?

SYMPTOMS
During Setup, if you choose to create a partition that uses the remaining space on a disk, you cannot use the maximum space available on the disk.

For example, if you choose to create a 4096-MB partition on a disk that has only 4096 MB available, the actual partition that is created may be 4095 MB or less in size.


CAUSE
Some space at the end of the disk is reserved by Setup in case you later want to upgrade the disk to a dynamic disk. Dynamic disk information is saved at the end of the disk. The amount that is reserved is a minimum of one cylinder, or 1MB, whichever is greater. One cylinder can be up to 8MB, depending on drive geometry and translation.

STATUS
This behavior is by design.

Nog één ding: de harde schijf die de XP installer geformateerd heeft, heeft de allocated space achteraan de schijf, de schijf die ik zelf probeer te partitioneren heeft de unallocated space vooraan op de schijf.
