Problem:
I just installed a new drive as a slave drive in my system. The drive is recognized by the system BIOS, but not by Windows.
Cause:
There are no partitions defined on the drive.
Affected Products:
All EIDE drives in Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP.
Resolution:
The drive must have at least one partition. After a partition is created, a drive letter is assigned to the partition.
Windows 95/98/ME:
Use Data Lifeguard Tools 10 to partition and format the drive. Please see Answer ID 12 for more information on using Data Lifeguard Tools 10 to install a drive.
Windows NT/2000/XP:
We recommend that you use the tools provided by the operating system to partition and format your drive. For specific instructions, please see below:
